Los Angeles FC had a dominant performance in Monday night’s 4-1 win against Seattle Sounders FC in the Round of 16 of the MLS is Back Tournament. LA’s Diego Rossi began the night strong as he earned a penalty which he successfully put away in the 14th minute of the game.
Los Angeles FC was able to grab a second at the end of the first half with a goal from Latif Blessing, who had his shot deflected into the net by Seattle’s defender Shane O’Neill in the 39th minute of play.
After missing a couple of great opportunities in the second half, Los Angeles got scored on by the Sounders’ Will Bruin, whose goal made the game a little intense for the next five minutes as his team’s offense pressed forward in an attempt to bag another goal to tie the game.
However, LA’s defense stood its ground and their offense was able take back control when Rossi hit a hard right-footed shot into the bottom corner past Seattle’s goalie Stefan Frei to take a 3-1 lead. Winger Brian Rodríguez put the game out of reach when he capitalized on a mistake by Seattle’s backfield with a goal in the 89th minute.
With Sunday night’s win, Los Angeles was successfully able to avenge last season’s loss to Seattle in the MLS Cup’s Western Conference Final, and they will now move on to face Orlando City SC in the Quarter-Finals on Friday night at 4:30 PM PST.
